  • What to feed garlic

I am told on here to feed my autumn planted garlic but not sure what to feed them. I have pelleted chicken poo, growmore and comfrey tea. Which would be best for them

A great rule of thumb is anything that passes through an animal is high in nitrigen content! Great for "Leafy" veg!
Wether it be a Horse, Cow, Pig, Chicken or Fish.

It's just how fresh it is you have to be aware of!

I would never dream of "Top Dressing" my beds with brand new "Horse Muck" for instance!

Pedantic point, but that applies to Urine (which if the manure is bedding, and the animals are predominantly indoors, such as over wintering animals, will contain a high proportion of urine of course).

Urine is high in Nitrogen and relatively quick release.

The Nitrogen in poo is about the same as the other main NPK elements (well, closer to 2:1:2 ratio I believe) so more like a growmore fertiliser than a nitrogen one. That Nitrogen source is also slower release - I have read that only half is released in the first year, for example. Presumably because it is locked up in undigested grass etc. which itself has to break down before the Nitrogen is available.
