  • What a dilemma!

Today's little "What would you do" question

I found these in the veg rack, 12 Osprey potatoes - chitted

All ready for planting and should be ready for Ch***mas !!

BUT I don't have a spare bed to plant them in.

    Would you :-

    1, Forget it

    2. Dig up something that is almost ready - like the Japanese onions and shallots

    3. Something else entirely!

I'll tell you my decision later - now tell me yours please

Dig up the nearly ready stuff?

Find some bags and plant them in them.

Borrow a bit of space somewhere?

I'd plant them in buckets/tubs then when the weather gets cooler you can move them into the GH.

        Hi,
My next door neighbour gave me some spuds like that. They were first earlies she had found for me. I got some potato sacks and popped them. They are going great guns now.
Have you got room for some potato sacks?

Plant in some bags or large buckets, or dig up your onions if they are almost ready

Don't you have a flower bed in the front garden you can dig up.

I'd go for buckets or sacks then at least you've got a chance of moving them if frost or blight threatens.

I have the sacks with a piece at the front you open to get at spuds. I have them facing the front so the bag wont pop open if I move them with my little sack trolley. They weigh a ton when filled with soil.

Might be worth a try with grow bags,
If you got any empty compost bags, put some garden soil in and sink some spuds, have you room in the green house to store them, you could wrap an older quilt around them when it gets a bit colder,

Its encouraging that nobody has suggested binning them - yet
                      Keep your ideas coming please

                        I would bin them.

                        But with compost on top.

Knowing you, you'll probably be planting them in a hanging basket or something!

Actually....why not get some pallets vertically and plant them up the side so they trail outwards. You could fix it to a south facing wall/ fence...then fleece it when there are frosts. You'd need to crop them all at once.
