  • Weedy chillie seedlings

Hi all and a Happy Easter

I sowed my chillie seeds, aubergine and sweet peppers back at the beginning of March.
Needless to say, they are still very small. In desperation, I moved them to my greenhouse, they were in heated propagator, in the hope that a bit more light might encourage them to perhaps grow a little other than their cotyledon leaves.
Am I expecting too much too soon ...?
    Thanks !😊

Chillis can take forever to get going past seed leaf stage. Give them some time and make sure they're warm enough.

I hope you've brought them in from the greenhouse tonight; it could be frosty. When you say weedy, do you mean just short, or are they thin and lanky? If they're just short / slow-growing, don't worry, just be patient as they will suddenly decide to grow when they're ready. What sort of potting compost are you using? Chillies like it light and airy and might sulk if it's too heavy or wet.

Thanks. Maybe I'm just being impatient. i normally use Verve compost but had to use Westland fro sure. Maybe that's why ? They are well protected in the greenhouse... I have them a little bit of water today cos they have been in there all over the Easter w/e. I hope that they will get a move on soon. ☀

Is your greenhouse heated? If there's a large temperature differential between day and night that might check their growth. I'm sure once we have consistent warm weather, they will really take off.

I wouldn't keep chilli seedlings in a GH overnight until the night time temps are at least 10 consistently at night.
            Are they in singular pots?
