  • Weeds and veg growing

I have a plot in my garden that I grow my veg in.

About a third of it though seems to have gotten really overrun with weeds. Don't ask me what type but they look a bit like skinny cos lettuces

Problem is, I have parsnips and carrots growing in amongst them. I have left them alone so far since the famous year a couple of years ago when I 'weeded' all my carrots LOL!

The carrots and parsnips are kind of recognisable now and I've been half heartedly pulling weeds when I'm out there but do you think this matters? Should I try to get the area weed free?? It would have to be a pull by hand job rather than using weed killer because of the veg mixed in...

Has anyone just left stuff to their own devices and had good crops anyway?

Are your carrots and parsnips grown in rows? Then you can simply run a hoe between the rows and not worry too much about the weeds that are closer to the veg.

Weeds will compete for light, water and nutrients so it's best to get rid of them IMO. Anyway, weeding is very therapeutic don't you think?

Ooh, I love a good after rain weeding session, they come out so much easier and if I didn't have spreadsheets to compile this afternoon it's what I would be doing.

        Kind of in rows LOL!

Three of them are as they were seeds implanted into that Wonderweb stuff but the others are a little more 'haphazard'. I'm going to start stuff off in the greenhouse next year as I had this trouble last year.

I do love weeding and the rest of my plot is pretty immaculate but this just disheartens me there are so many. I'll take a picture and post it at the weekend.

Right...I'm going to go out on Saturday and not allow myself back in until I can see veg through the wilderness.

I SO wanted lots of grapes to come on and say 'ah just ignore them, they'll thrive in the weeds '

Here is a picture of my weeds....somewhere in there, there are carrots, parsnips, chilli's and leeks! Oh and one courgette plant!
