  • Walking stick kale germinated!

Two years ago I grew walking stick kale which reached a height of at least 8 feet and had a 'trunk' about 3 inches diameter rather than a stem.
I collected a few seeds and came across them when I was having a tidy up. Out of daftness I broadcast some of them in a 6 inch pot and left them in the cold greenhouse.
Just looked today and it appears they have all germinated. I know that to give a decent gene pool you should have at least six plants flowering at the same time..............but these all came from one plant, the only one flowering at the time.
Looking forward to seeing what they turn out like! Worse case scenario is that they will make decent greens for the chooks!

Since they grow so tall can you grow regular stuff 'under' them?

Have you got a huge space to grow them in Snadger? Perhaps a spare corner of the Snadger estate?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I guess if you wait a while before planting out you could even grow them in the chook run

Last time I attempted to make a kale hedge down one side of the plot!

This time I inted just dotting them around the allotment in a similar way to my planned Brussel Sprout planting!

What with wigwams of canes for beans , tall peas on the arbour and tall sunflowers along with JA's plus the aforementioned it should make the plot 'interesting' to look at if nowt else!
