Top Dressing

When top dressing my over wintered vegetables with a granular fertiliser should I fork or hoe the fertiliser into the top soil or can I leave it on the soil surface to be washed in by the next lot of rain?

I'd just sprinkle it on then lightly fork it over.

I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

I just sprinkle it onto damp ground and leave it, to be honest.
