  • Tomtato and grafted tom varieties?

Has anyone on their travels or readings come across any varieties that go into tomtatoes or grafted toms? The sum up of info I have is

Tomtato: spuds are a white all purpose spud (I could guess) and tom apparently tastes better than those in the supermarket (well that's not difficult)

Grafted Toms: I have seen shirley, piccolo, supersteak but the rootstock is supposedly a disease resistant and more cold hardy variety

    Thanks as always

I dont know if this helps but you can buy tomato- submarine rootstock seeds specially for grafting.

It would be fun to graft a potato stem onto a tomato rootstock. Completely pointless, but fun.

I don't have any spare plants but maybe I could root an armpit and plant one of those chitted tubers that's still sitting on my windowsill. Here comes the Potmato...

Yep, kinda what I thought but it is one of those try it once type of affairs just to say you can do it. Bit like giant veg.

What others did you find? I might give it a go next year

I have an idea of what might try, no idea if it will work but as they arent cheap how about growing a rootstock seed early and letting it grow on as a cordon, then you could take sideshoots from it (probably get 20 odd from a plant) and use those when needed for grafting, You could even grow your other normal plant side by side and snip off a sideshoot from the normal plant on and attach it to the rootstock sideshoot while its still on the plant, once its healed snip it off and put it in water to root.

Great minds I also thought I could use part of the rootstock as an interstem to see if it improved the tomtato Moles seeds do submarine but they also do arnold, then kings do estamino they are all F1 hence they higher price. also they are not edible so don't mix them with your other toms
