Today as I was tidying around and going through my seeds I found a packet of seeds I had swopped on another forum in 2007. My question is how long are tomato seeds viable for?

You could be lucky. I certainly keep them for several years. You could test germinate a few on a piece of damp kitchen roll to see if it is worth sowing any in compost.
