    Tomato seedlings

    Bought some lovely vine tomatoes from Lidl called Rivoli & the same day got a video on Facebook declaring you never had to buy tomato seeds again. It stated that you sliced u the fresh tomato into slices put them in compost to grow. Seemed too good to be true but thought I d try it. As they were small toms I cut it in 4 spooned the seeds on to the compost & covered them 4 days later they germinated & now I have a pot full of seedlings. Have pricked 2 out to grow on. I know they may be F1 & will not come true but the easy germination amazed me.
    Will keep you posted re results.

    You can't bear fresh seed! Let's us know how it fruits and whether you have much variation to the mother fruit

      Be interesting to see how they turn out, I always save my tom seeds I've not bought any since since I joined the vine.

        Good looking pot of seedlings, great germination.

        I suspect you will find your two plants will give very similar looking and tasting fruit, though firmness may differ. I found this little bit of info "The new honey-sweet topper is the Rivoli tomato. This cherry, like brother Picolo, stems from seed house Gaultier. It is a sweet, fresh vegetable with a shiny red look and a crunchy bite." Belgium: Stoffels expands tomato assortment and attains IFS certificate The 'crunchy bite' indicates it will store well and have good keeping both on the vine and once picked.

        You can't go wrong if they are anything like Piccolo, which I believe is an F1 variety although if you grow out second generation F2 seeds the results are pretty uniform. Taste and plant quality are good. Piccolini is the same (though smaller fruit).
