  • Tomato plant problem.

Any idea what is wrong with this tomato plant. The growing tip seems very shrivled and the new leaves don't look good.

Some of the leaves look like this too...

Sorry been a while since I've been on so gave no idea what's happening with the sizes of those images.

What compost are they growing in?
Is it one plant or all of them?

Are they crowded & this one’s not getting much water? Are you watering everyday for the plant roots to not dry out in any area? It looks like the leaves are slowly dying how they’re going brown there on the furthest point in that last photo.

Too much sun by the looks of it, the brown leaves are burnt, some shading and regular watering helps, they should pick up ok if they are given a bit of protection and ventilation.

Compared to last summer's heatwave when all my tomato plants were fine I find it strange that they'd get sun damage this year. I'll try though.

              Thanks for replies.

Having said that it's only 2 out of 15 plants.

Just wish mind would ripen. Best crop I have ever had and mostly all green.

                    Scoot, my personal opinion.
Think they have some sort of disease,
I wouldn't like to say which one.
Google tomato disease and decide for yourself.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Hard to judge from pics but thinking they might be too dry..
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

As expected, a few different answers haha.

I've let a side shoot grow in place if the growing tip and it seems ok at the minute.

Thanks for all you replies though

I rarely get through a season without something odd happening to the tommies, however never lost a plant nor noticed any loss of crop, tommies are tough old plants.

Personally, I think the third picture shows sun damage. Are you getting Guttation on the leaves (where you get little droplets of water on the edges) or have the leaves got wet when watering. The early morning sun can then focus through those drops and burn the leaves.

Exactly what is then wrong with the growing points I can't say but again it could be sun damage.

How are you growing the plants? (Growbags, ground or MFBs) are adjacent plants in the same growing medium affected or is it just the one? Is it a different cultivar? (I've found that different cultivars behave differently and as I'm only growing a few of each cultivar the same conditions can result in very different behaviour).

Cut the growing point off or leave it to see if it recovers.
