  • Tomato moneymaker

    hiya all, im a little confused with my tomato moneymakers i have them in my polytunnel at the moment went to check on them last night and my moneymakers are only about 7 inches in height but they are just starting to flower, now i thought they grew much taller than that before flowering? am i doing something wrong? any advice would be appreiated

    Are they still in pots or planted. If Not planted I would get them in.

      yes they are still in pots, i was hoping to keep them in pots would i be able to pot them up in larger pots?

        do yourself a favour mate and forget growing tomatoes in pots! they dry out so quickly and it is hard work keeping up with watering them. Grow tomatoes in the soil,it will be warm enough now and after a really good drink they will grow away very happily...and you will find watering a lot less of a chore.

          Yes, and you should. Morrisons type buckets are good (8 for 99p). Put a saucer under each pot, or else try a version of the ring culture method to help with watering.

            If you have a polytunnel with soil on the ground - then I'd grow in the ground.

            If not, then the big pots are the way to go. I sometimes leave a few in small pots to flower early - they flower when stressed and being pot bound causes this.

              thanks for your replys they have really helped, iggyboy the only reason im growing in pots is that the only place in polytunnel i can put them the ground is hard and stoney and havnt got room for them anywhere else, two sheds thanks for the link i might try the ring method thanks again to you all
