Tokyo Bekana - not a holiday destination but an Oriental leaf for salad or cooking!

Here's Moreveg's offer - and the first time I'd heard of it.
    Oriental Tokyo Bekana - Moreveg
And Seeds for Vegetables Salad Tokyo Bekana
Seems to be quite versatile - a lettuce substitute that can be eaten as micro leaves and also be cooked. Can be grown all year round.

Has anyone tried it? is it as good as it seems?

After doing a quick search on the vine, the only post I could find was from Thelma:

Did I hear my name ?

TB? It's a mild Chinese leaf like thing. It looks like lettuce, but I'd say it tastes more like a mild cabbage, but with softer leaves. For me, growing in winter tubs in the greenhouse, it doesn't get that mustard leaves taste - which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned - and it doesn't get the bitter taste of chicory, either.

I do eat some of the young leaves in salad but most of it is wilted in a pan with some garlic and oil.

Thanks Thelma. I knew you'd hear me if I shouted loudly enough
If you've grown TB more than once that's a positive! May have to place a little seed order now
I've found 3 suppliers in the UK:-
              Tamar Organics - 400 seeds for £1.40 (p&p £1.60)
              Nicky's is £1.75 for 250 seeds, p&p £1.75
              Moreveg is 50p for 50 seeds & £1.35 p&p

How difficult will it be to order only one packet?

Easy to order 1 pkt from Moreveg, but check if there is anything else you want - in small quantities - as you may as well pick it/them up at the same time. Sure you could identify a few items that look interesting just to add in.

My pack of 10 or 11 arrived about 2 weeks ago, need the seed compost to start them off. Chilli's will be first, then the peppers and the tomato's.

I can recommend namenia if you are ordering salad type seeds. Grows quickly, mild taste and generally easy.
