  • Thistles

    I was just wondering that can thistles be used for any good use in garden, like making of nettle tea..so thistle tea. any body aware of the composition of the thistle leaves and stems.

    Not sure about thistle tea but the goldfinches love the seed heads!
    Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

        Other than supplying the birds with food I have not found a use for thistles. Be wary of putting the roots on the compost as even the smallest bit of root can grow. I usually have a special compost heap where I put all perennial weeds and compost them for 18 months.

          You can eat the nuts that grow in the seedhead! (At least we used to when we were kids!)

          Anyone finds a use for them....please let me know as they are really hard to eradiicate in my plot!

            thanks for advices, i have them actually on one side of my grass plane, and I usually clip them off but they tend to reappear... ,
