  • Tall tomato little flower

This is my first year of growing tomato inside. They are cordon. Strong and healthy and 4' high. Problem is they have only one or two flower trusses on them. If I pinch out the tops will it encourage side shoots and hopefully more flower.

Brengirl you only stop a cordon after it has set 4 or 5 trusses. Are you sure you didn't take off flower trusses as well as sideshoots? It sounds like you will need to keep a stepladder handy to tend the top growth!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

        Thank you both.

Yes Jeanied I have indeed pinched off the wrong bit on one of them but I have replanted so maybe all is not lost lol.

Will they eventually bear fruit or just be a waste of space? They are Black Cherry

Sounds like you may have started them very early to be 4ft high already? Leggy tomatoes are down to low light levels, a problem with early toms.
Only pinch out the tops when you have run out of space, then you can grow on a sideshoot to flower, but that side shoot will need extra support, I have done this many times.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.
