Has anyone ideas to strip the kernels from corn cobs? I have tried, but all I get is corn mush!

You need a sharp knife. Stand the cob on its end and cut down where the corn kernels join the cob. Watch it doesn't slip and the kernels tend to ping across the work top.

Sounds like when I strip Pomegranets... they tend to ping round the kitch a bit. Any suggestions to try and limit the mileage they fly?

Shortie do you hit the pomegranate to get the seeds out?

You'd think so by the sound of it wouldn't you?

No, I cut them in quarters and turn the skins inside out as I find it easiest to pop them out, but some really do 'pop' out!

This is the way I have seen it done with great success. Cut the pomegranate in half, hold it over a bowl and bash the shell with a wooden spoon and the seeds just fall out. Not as much fun as eating them one at a time with a pin though. (Childhood memories)

How do you guys grow pomegranates? I love them but thought that you could not grow them over here? Would also like to have a go at growing edible passion fruit - or granadillas as I know them!

                Hi Squirrel

I cheat and buy them, but there was an article in a gardening mag a few months back about growing pomegranates over here but I can't remember which mag it was.... I'll take a look the weekend and see if I can find it....

Back to sweetcorn - use a spoon rather than a knife - you'll get better results.

There's a little information on this page that I found.

Well now! Had no idea that pomegranates were frost hardy or that easy to gow! Will make a point of buying some next time I see them and have a go! Thanks for the web link Strepsy

Raining here and the earth sucking up the water like a sponge! I'm sure the plants have grown an inch overnight with all the lovely wet! Hell driving back from Heathrow in it though even if it was a Sunday morning (early!)

Pomegranates make a good Bonsai subject as well, nice red flower if my memory serves me correct
