  • Swede bolted?

I'm totally new to growing veg. I've started withsome swede. They seem to be flowering already and have shot up: the tops are about 2 feet tall, very spindly . Is this right? If not, any advice on where I've gone wrong would be much appreciated!

Have a look at this thread, it was only posted a few weeks ago. It appears you started them too early.

My swede are all sown direct and now nicely through now but still very small

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Thanks, Bigmally and all. Read the thread and see swede aren't the easy veg I thought! I forgot to say that I bought plants from the garden centre, didn't sow seeds. Just assumed that if they were on sale, it was the right time to plant them.....

Not an unreasonable assumption but sadly not the case

A cynic would say that garden centres deliberately sell too-early plants to newbies who will buy more when the first lot fail

Well, Alison and Two Sheds, I've learned my lesson: check with this forum in future before I spend my hard earned cash! Surely kind hearted garden centres wouldn't treat us poor novice gardeners so cruelly. It's not as if they want to make money out of us!!!
