    Supermarket cheap veg plants, peppers Apache

    I was in Aldi at the weekend and they had packs of 6 veg plants for £1.99
    They were in a small plastic greenhouse affair with a cardboard cover.
    I got a pack of 6 chilli Apache. They were quite good.

    Unfortunately there were packs where all the plants had died, lack of water I assume.

    Also there were packs where the cardboard covers were removed, so you didn't know what they were. Typically tomatoes which looked healthy but could have been Alacante or some cherry tom. So didn't gamble !

    Bit of a shame really.

    They had other chillis and sweet peppers which were OK but I didn't need them.

    Yes, the little plastic greenhouses are quite useful if you only need half a dozen of something to save and use as modules for your own seeds.....

      I got the orange chilli peppers and some alicante, because the ones I sowed didn't come up yet (and I sowed the chillies late anyway)

      But that is the name: "Chilli pepper orange" like.. okay? Helpful? It's ok, my spice tolerance has gotten a lot better over the past year.

      The little sticky gel underneath is interesting though. Should I eat it? (just kidding of course )

          I see what you mean, I just potted mine on and there is a layer of weird gunk under the plants.
          Wonder if it would be useful for in pots or hanging baskets as a water retainer ?

            Yeah, I'm going to scoop mine out and mix it into the soil of my hanging baskets. I figure it can't hurt plants if that's what they're already sitting in.
