  • Sungold splitting after picking

My sungolds are ready to be picked and I thought I would take some to work for supper. So I picked some ( cut the vine from the stem) took them indoors and plucked a few off the vine then put them in my plastic box, then I went to cut a cucumber off and came back and a number of the toms had split! Any idea why?

They just do that. I find with Sungold, it's best to pick them slightly under-ripe - the texture is crisper, they don't split, and they taste sharper (i find them too sweet when fully ripe).

Agree with bario. They do have terrible tendency to split when picked. But they're so thin-skinned delicious I don't mind.
