When you come to use them and assuming you just want a couple, doesn't the whole damn lot fall apart?

Thanks for this. Looking forward to giving it a go in a few weeks. My onions don't seem to be anywhere near harvesting yet!

They were the overwintering onions and some shallots - and I needed the bed. I still have the main crop ones and more shallots to come

I strung the onions that way last year and they didn't fall apart

Ooh I've got onion envy now. Mine are a lot fewer - and a lot smaller!

I strung mine last year and hung them in the garage - big ones in one string and small in the other. I didn't peel off all the outside and found them a bit messy as bits tended to drop off, but otherwise it worked well. The strings didn't fall apart and they kept for absolutely ages. I still have one of the little ones uneaten - I'm seeing how long it takes to sprout (Sturon).
