  • Strawberry thief

Have started finding a few chewed strawberries around the garden. The only thing I can guess is that it is squirrels. We get quite a few around here although haven’t seen so much of them recently as I’ve not been putting nuts out. Guess I’ll be putting some net over them.

We don't have squirrel here instead its birds that eat my strawbs or they would if I'd not netted them.
    Location....East Midlands.

I watched a squirrel come and pinch a strawberry from right outside my back door today - and we have two (useless) cats.

And found grey hairs in the tray of broad bean seedlings which ‘didn’t germinate ‘...

Mice also take strawberries. They store little piles of half eaten ones, often still green around the garden.

Wood pigeons were having ours before the nets went on. The strawbs were still white and most were just pecked off the plants and left lying about.

              It’s blackbirds that eat ours

Sounds like a war zone out there. I think I may have to net mine. First I need to get some straw to lift the berries off the soil though.

Well we do get lots of wood pigeons and blackbirds. Wonder if I’m unfairly blaming the squirrels. Well guess I’ll just net and see.

I'd prefer squirrels and pigeons to my own dog deciding to step up into the ikea bags and taking dumps on top of mine ><

I put nets on in May with holes big enough for bees to get in and do their thing, but seems to keep the rogues out, just the wife and grandkids that I need to set traps for.

Well my husband thought we got a poor crop of strawberries last year. We didn’t it’s just that they didn’t reach the house - me and my son ate them off the plant.
