I'm thinking of growing some Strawberries this year. This type...

Strawberry Red & White Mixed Seeds|Mr Fothergill's Vegetable Seeds

Anyone know if these are any good or can anyone suggest a better variety?

They're the small Alpine strawberries. If you don't have much space, you may be better growing a "normal" size strawb.

Not really loads of space no. They will be in a couple of pots I'd imagine. Maybe a couple of hanging baskets.

Any suggestions as i am totally new to growing Starwberries. My dad used to grow them int he garden years ago, but i was only a nipper and all i can remember about them, was eating them haha.

I may be wrong but you'd need plants if you want to eat any this year. Most perennials flower and fruit from the second year.
Just read the description and they say will fruit the first year but I'm sceptical. I'd buy runners from somewhere like Ken Muir.

Do you know anyone with any spare runners?

Ive just had a look under strawberry plants, I think I used moreplants2011 , the name rings a bell but it was a year ago.

The ones I got on ebay were as good as the sutton ones I got which arrived so late I couldnt actually get a crop from!

If you don't get runners, you'll still be able to get plants a bit later in the year. Last year, I got six elsanta plants from aldi for £3, they were very productive and tasted lovely.

Better that than wasting time, effort and money, only to be disappointed several months down the line.

I have several packets of different strawberry seeds, some very pricy. But i have never sown any from seed, i really struggle to grow them out here, i bought a dozen plants last year and gave them plenty of water but they just seemed to get cooked in the sun (strawberries and plants), but it was very hot last year.
So wanting to try the alpine strawberries, but might be a bit late now, i will still try i think
I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

I grew some of the freebie seeds off the front of the mag. Out of the whole packet I ended up with 9 plants and even though they were alpines they remained very small for a very long time.

Like others I got my runners from Hebay and last year they were great.

We left the plants when we moved in Nov so this year I took advantage of an offer Marshall's had.

But I would recommend the Hebay root as at least you will be able to get your own runners this year and extend your plant numbers.
