  • sowing seeds

    Hi

I have saved a few seeds from last year, but will seeds bought recently be ok to plant?
I have just boiled a butternut squash that I bought from Morrisons. Could I just let them dry out for a week and then plant them? I did the same with some apple pips, but they have not sprouted yet, I planted them about 10 days ago.

FG, A fascinating area which gets quite complex because different plants require different processes ... Worth some Google enquiries, here's some to get you started:

    General guidelines on saving/sowing seeds:

    On saving seed (including squash):

On growing an apple tree from a pip:

It's really exciting when it works (I'm easily pleased)

      sowing seeds

I have saved seeds from morrison's long red peppers and dragon fruit from a local shop. Perhaps I ought to dig a few seeds out of the butternut squash before it gets eaten.

Thanks all, I am hoping to do some guerilla planting, if all my apple pips grow into trees.
Just a matter of picking the right place to plant them. I wonder what other veg are suitable for guerilla planting?

Havn't got around to sowing any squashes or courgettes yet. Just have a feeling we may well have some late frosts this year so am holding back.
