I've grown Scorzonera Duplex, not maxima. Be careful not to weed them out as they look like sticks or blades of grass when they germinate. The roots can get pretty long - especially if you eave them for another year.I had a stray that somehow escaped harvesting from last year (possible grew back from a snapped root) and I only managed to get 2 foot of the root out.

They are perennials (unlike salsify) and I've planted the offsets from the 2yo root, which seem to be still alive so I'll see how it does this year.

I like them just fried in butter - though I par boil them a bit to make them easier to take the skin off.

I found them pretty easy to grow, although unfortunately I didn't get much germination from this years sowing - I wonder if the seeds may have a short shelf life.

I grew them in 2015 out of curiosity. I think I left them till after summer 2016 to harvest as they took that long in my garden to get to a decent size. They weren't anything special for me. I'd rather grow turnip or celeriac.

I bought some seeds too because it is supposed to repel carrot fly. Fingers crossed.
