  • Scarlet Empire/ Emperor

I grew some Scarlet Empire or Emperor runner beans last year and some got very large and ended up being left for ages and my little boy amused himself taking a load of them out of the dried up pods.

    Two questions:

Has anyone cooked with dried runner beans?
Are they an F1 or can i use them as seeds for next years crop?

    Thanks
    Guy

Don't know about F1 but if you soak the beans overnight and then boil them fast for 10 mins to destroy the toxins and then simmer until tender I don't see why you couldn't eat them.

I always save some Scarlet emperor beans to use for next years seeds, I've not had to buy new seeds since 2007.

If you're going to eat your dried beans please follow roitelet advice. Have a read at this older thread for more info : http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...tml#post358760

Useful in a catapult to repel various "unspecified" four legged vermin.
Like rats and other similar things.
