    Salad potatoes

    Can someone please tell me where salad potatoes fit in the timetable of 1st and 2nd earlies and maincrops. If I were to plant them all the same day (as I now know I can - this grapevine is a wonderful thing) when in the sequence should I be looking for the salad potatoes to be ready?

    And why are they called 'salad potatoes' anyway?

    Cos they taste nice in salads

    Some 'salad' potatoes are 2nd earlies (e.g. Charlotte), some are maincrop (e.g. pink fir)... there are probably some 1st early varieties too, not sure - just remember that 'salad potatoes' refers to what you might DO with the spuds when you harvest them - it isn't a variety in itself. Hope that makes sense?
