    Is it safe to re-use seedling compost

    Can anyone tell me if it is safe to re-use seedling compost for new seeds. If you can re-use it, is it wise to plant the same seed as before or would you be able to grow a different seed. although the compost was only used for a short while, i'm wondering if there is any risk of spreading disease, though the seedlings that occupied the previous compost looked healthy.It seems such a waste not to re-use.

      I used to but now....

      I am currently sowing my seeds into the compost [home made] that has been used in 2 raised beds that I've dug out recently. I have also thrown into the pile the soil from all my overwintered peppers [that didn't make it as they had been outdoors all winter], and any other pots that never grew etc.

      I'm mixing in with all that a bag of peat free compost to increase the drainage but to be honest it isn't needed.

      It's saving me a bomb in seed compost - I'm just hoping it lasts as long as possible. When it is, I'm going to make a start on the compost that is in it's final heap in the garden. I do remove the odd twig etc but the seedlings aren't complaining yet.
