First time I've used this and am wondering if I need to sew up the small holes?

What are you looking to stop? They would have to be small pigeons to get through those holes.

Some folk sew them some don't. Personally I don't bother but like Jay says, it depends what you are trying to protect. If it's fruit from birds then it'll be fine but if it's cabbages from butterflies, you may need to consider sewing them up.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

I've just built some frames to protect from carrot fly. By jiggery,pokery I've managed to keep the holed areas away from the main cover.
The one on the right is blue debri netting cut accordingly, with seams on framework!

I did on my brassica cage by the time the netting was stretched the holes seemed quite large.Attached FilesLocation....East Midlands.Comment

I didn't one mine, although I try and line up the holes with the frame where possible. The only caterpillar damage I got was from a few moths that pupate in the ground, so were already in there....

I've got a big piece down the allotment with no holes sewn up with something like 40 brassica's protected. To date there is no sign of caterpillars. The butterflys seem to ingnore the netting and area completely and just fly byComment

I try and line the holes up with supporting members so it's not a problem.Comment

I had some nets with holes in. The cabbage whites had no trouble getting in.
And they also remembered how to get out.
Not as daft as you think a butterfly.

I sewed mine up. Large needle and some knitting wool... easy and means you know the little blighters aren't going to get in!Comment
