  • Red podded peas (as seen on Monty Don - I think!)

I might be completely wrong here, as it was only a farily brief glimpse but I *think* one of the gardens on Monty's 'Around the World...' prog lastnight had some red podded peas. Certainly something a crescent sort of shape with seeds inside it.

I've Googled with no success, though I've found a couple of beans that it might be

Anyone ever heard of a red podded pea? Anyone notice the same thing on the prog and have a better idea what it was? If I get the time later I'll try and watch it again for a better look but any help would be appreciated!

PW was looking for similar peas earlier this year, don't know if he was successful? I'm sure I saw something about a red pea on an american site when I was searching for climbing butter beans, but didn't really take note, sorry.

I think the garden you are referring to was the Monticello garden in America, it does seem to have a website...Jefferson's Monticello: The Gardens and Grounds

Might be worth having a look as it has a section on the fruit & vegetable garden.

I have a purple podded pea from the HSL - depends on your definition of purple/red I suppose.

It was indeed the Monticello garden Newbie, though I couldn't find any more info on their site. If all else fails, I will contact them and see if they can help.

Flum, it was most definitely red!

Jamie had a reddish podded pea on this week's programme. Don't think he mentioned the name of it.

I've grown purple podded and yellow podded but haven't seen red podded!

I'll keep an eye on this thread with interest and see if anyone comes up with a supplier!

What colourful gardens we could all have. Keep us posted if you find out more!

I'm guessing you've found this American seed supplier before Seahorse (and unfortunately they DON'T have red-podded peas), but I've just come across them. They do have lovely red beans! If you haven't seen them before, then PLEASE, lock up your purse before viewing...!

I want a yellow podded broad bean if you ever come across one .... there are several purple podded peas some are normal peas and some are mangtout types and they vary in depth of colour.

Yes, happy to ship here Postage was $7 (about £3.50?) but that was a flat rate, so good value on my order, I thought.

I've emailed the people at Monticello. I'll report back if I get a response.
