  • Pumpkins all grown wrong

Earlier in the year, I bought a pack of Dills Atlatic Giant Pumpkin seeds from my favourite online retailer.
I have about 5 or 6 plants growning, and every plant is producing what can only be described as yellow marrows.

Last year I grew 'Jack o Lantern', which from the on set all grew like pumkins.
    Round and filled out.

I'm aware that seeds taken from pumkins, don't neccesarily grow pumkins due to cross polination, so I'm guessing that my pack of seeds are rogue seeds.

However, I thought that i'd pose the scenario on here and see what everyone else thought.

      Looks like a yellow courgette?

Probably a seed mix up somewhere in the packaging process.

I think it must be very difficult to completely reliably exclude the occasional stray insect bearing the wrong Cucurbita pepo pollen, even for the commercial seed suppliers.

Just so you know you're not alone, I've attached photos of two fruits I obtained from seeds that came out of packets labelled Delicata. One of 10 plants from last year looks pretty much exactly like a Sweet Dumpling. This year's is anyone's guess. The fruits were marrow-sized when we spotted them, but rock-skinned like a winter squash. They are now slowly turning orange.

Ask the retailer is there's been a mixup? Maybe they'll send you another packet for next year?

Wow, that really is wrong, I grow Dill's Atlantic and they definitely don't look like that Is it possible you mixed up your plants/seeds? I ended up with courgettes in the GH and cucumbers in the squash bed this year. My own fault as I thought I would remember which pot I sowed which seed in

Definately no mix up at my end, as I dont have any other seeds or plants growing.
The remaining seeds I'll dispose of.

I have brought this to the attention of the supplier, who say that they will take it up with the commercial grower, I've also supplied the batch number.

I've had a refund, but to be honest, I wasn't bothered about a refund, I was more interested in learning what went wrong.
I've dealt with this particular supplier for a few years, and whilst it won't put me off buying from them in future, I'll maybe try a different supplier for Atlantic Giant next year.
