    Hi,

I am looking at one of those vitopod propogators (I know expensive, I'll save up) to save heating my greenhouse over winter I guess it will be more economical.

Question: Has anyone used roottrainers with one? May seem like a stupid question but if I want to start off sweet peas, parsnips et al, it needs more depth than a seed tray.

    Thanks

Dave, I haven't got one (would like one...) but think you can buy extensions (at extra cost...) to raise the sides. Alternatively the Jumbo, if you know that one, has adequate height for deep root-trainers.

On the topic of heated greenhouses, if you noticed the recent thread on retaining heat in a cold greenhouse a Google search on "solar greenhouse" was suggested and has produced some interesting ideas. And not only economical but free! b.

I start my sweet peas in Oct/Nov (no heat needed - leave in unheated plastic greenhouse all winter and plant o/s in March).

Parsnips get started in April - no heat needed.

I use a normal size propagator for things like chillies, tomatoes, celeriac etc which require a bit of heat in Feb to get started.

Agree with Two Sheds - parsnips and sweet peas started without heat.

I treated myself to a Vitapod this year - love it. I've bought the extension to give extra height, but haven't needed it yet.

Bought mine (a double Double) last month, and its the best gardening tool I have ever bought. When I took delivery, I had some chilli seeds that had been on a windowsill for nearly a month with nothing showing, 7 days in the Vitapod, and I had 100% germination

VitaPod Propagator (heated double length 1 layer) / Propagators / Propagation / AquaCulture Hydroponics

Sorry, but £180 for a 100cm x 50cm propagator is having a larf! I see that it has won lots of awards though ... but even so ...

I only paid £155 for mine, and thought it was expensive, but the quality is superb, no cold spots, plenty ventilation.

With the extra layer, its big enough to grow seedlings of most plants and is a lot cheaper to run than a heated greenhouse
