Well its that time of year again but this year I have a greenhouse to help things along.

So here is my first question of the season

Can I chit my potatoes in an unheated greenhouse and if so is there anything special I need to do?

Hi Kim, there is nothing much to it all you have to do is set them out

As previous post just set them out with the eyes facing upwards, mine are in an unheated greenhouse

Beware Greeks bearing gifts, or have you already got a wooden horse?... hehe.

I collect egg trays, they're ideal to hold seed potatoes while they're chitting - one per egg space. An unheated greenhouse is fine, as long as it's protected from frost. If hard frost is forecast then bring your little darlings indoors for the night.

I had my seed potatoes delivered a couple of weeks ago and left them in their box in the greenhouse. I finally got round to sorting them out yesterday and many have started to sprout really pale sprouts. I have now put these onto trays in the greenhouse (and covered with fleece last night as hard frost was forecast). Will these still be ok to plant or do I have to start again?

They will be just fine leave them chitting and uncover them when the frost passes so they get more light.
