  • Potato Sacks

Have just emptied my first sack o' tatties. 1 of the 3 seeds had rotted but managed to get 12 nice looking tatties from the 2 remaining seeds. My question is, do I have to wash the sacks as I intend to use them next year?...I'm thinking of the rotation/blight issue in the ground.Thanks.

I wash mine but I learned a lot of stuff from an old gardener who was obsessive about cleanliness of tools and equipment. Certainly won't do any harm.

BM - I just emptied two sacks, and 2 of 3 in each sack rotted... wondering now if it's due to the amount of water in the bottom of the sacks? Will see I guess when the others are emptied.

Loads of compost per sack though - next year I'm going to use alternative ways of earthing up in them.

You should wash them really, but how many of us actually do a thorough clean of our pots and containers? What are they made of?

I presume it is sort of woven? Just give them a good rinse and hang up somewhere to dry.

Yep, they're woven (well the haxnicks ones I have are anyway.. presuming BM's are the same ).

The handles aren't much cop though - I've ripped some off with a 1/4 full sack of compost.

Just put the compost back in and put another crop of something or other in them!

You haven't had blight though, so it won't be in the sacks

Yup. You shouldn't have water sitting in the bottom, it should be able to drain away
