Potato order done...but I have a question..

    Potato order done...but I have a question..

    I have put my order in with JBA for potatoes, this year it'll be Casablanca and Charlotte.

    I used JBA last year for the first time and was most impressed.

    I happened to notice that some varieties, Cara, Rooster etc etc cannot be sent to Eire or Nothern Ireland, just out of interest would anyone know why this is!?
    Both seem to originally be from there, ive had a browse of the web but cant find an answer!?

    I thought it was just for import regulations, a lot of seed websites say that they can't deliver anything other than seeds off the mainland UK. Are you sure it was just those potatoes and not all the potatoes?

          Sorry don't know how to paste a link but copied this from D T Browns website.

          Unfortunately D.T. Brown is unable to send non-seed items outside of the UK such as potatoes, onions, fruits and plants. There are no exceptions to this policy. Due to current restrictions imposed by agricultral bureaux, we are not sending any orders or catalogues to addresses outside the UK and EU. Please accept our apologises for any inconvenience caused.

            Yes, i'd understand if it was all varieties, just struck me as a bit weird it appears to be some but not all... where's all the potato experts!? lol

                Interesting reading, found these moochin google too.

                I always buy seed potatoes from a trusted source that have been grown in a cooler climate where there is little infection from aphids such as Scotland and Northern Ireland.

                But we have to be very careful here, as we live in one of Europe's top potato growing areas, and the last thing they need is imported "nasties".

                Wonder if we should be buying these potatoes if it's the country that is banning the importation of these products, they obviously don't want them contaminating their soil/plants?

                  It'll be something to do with the licence because Cara and Rooster were both bred in Ireland - so the UK can't send them back where they came from

                    Thanks for that, i wonder if anyone has grown the same variety from Scottish and Irish seed to compare the two!?

                        I may have to do the same, I can't view the seed potatoes on the JBA website at the moment, I wanted to figure out how much money I need to save for seed potatoes for next year!
