    planting with onion sets.

    Germinated my pinto beans and have planted them up in small pots.
    My problem now is- where to plant them in their final position.
    I really have very little space, but have 2 half barrel's which I have planted with onion sets which are doing well.
    I know onions don't like competition but as i'm desperate for space would it be a disaster if I planted them both together?

    As far as I know, onions and legumes do not get on well together as regards companion planting so putting them together may risk both crops.
    Jiving on down to the beach to see the blue and the gray, seems to be all and it's rosy-it's a beautiful day!

      King carrot, thanks for that. Was so busy thinking the onions might sulk with the competition that I had'nt thought about whether they would do well together or not.
      Guess I will have to find somewhere else to plant them out.

        Hi Bramble, i hope you can find space for your beans.
        Onions are relatively cheap in grocers compared to beans, so you should look after your beans, you get a better crop from little space.
        I have put onions in but am now thinking i could have used the space better, i will see how they do and how they taste and reconsider for next year.
        Beans will always be on my growing plan.

          Can't you buy some Morrisons flower buckets and put your beans in them?
          If they are climbers, put a cane in each bucket and tripod 3 pots together.
