    Peas and Hanging Baskets

    Hi Folks

    Last year my Peas were decimated, if not by pigeons them the moles got the roots....
    This year i am thinking of putting them in hanging baskets..
    Has anybody tried this before
    If so how did they do....I am going to try anyway just as an experiment but would like to hear your thoughts and suggestions

    Havn't tried myself but i know a man who has,he gets good results,peas just trail down so no support is required,only problem he has is that the postman helps himself to a few!

            You can grow them but obviously it's not that good for the tall varieties. I've grown mangetout like that in the past but only for a bit of fun as you won't get massive crops as the number of plants will be small. Not really enough for meals but a you will get a few. Not done it for a few years as tend not to grow much veg at home anymore as I now have the lottie in full production.

            Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

            Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

              Just to let everyone know last years experiment with peas in hanging basket.......


              .......... IT FAILED.........

              because the hanging baskets are so small the peas are very thirsty they did not produce any peas worth harvesting, ther were quite a few pods but nothing much inside

              I could try again with moisture retaining granules in the basket

              Note to self.... go to shop and get moisture granules..... and give it another try

                I do like an Experiment - with results!!
                Good luck with this year's super-improved version
                Could you put an upside down plastic bottle (with holes in the cap for trickle watering) in the baskets as you plant up?

                  This sounds even better as it is alot cheaper than the granules
                  This could be next years trial even if this years works
