  • Peanut squash - is it...

...just a fancy name for butternut?

I bought seeds in the dizzy whirl that is Brighton's Seedy Sunday and forgot to note down what kind of squash it is.

I have a nagging doubt that I've been dazzled into buying another ruddy butternut. I can't find any reference to it on the seed merchant's site (the Ebisu squash I bought is also not listed), not can I find it on t'internet. The packet is a plain brown envelope with generic pictures on it.

    I have just bought a butternut, haven't I?

Butternut squash is known here as Peanut squash (calabaza de cacahuete).

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Oh they certainly saw me coming then! Hoist by my own 'I-love-rare-squash, what-is-this?' petard!

I have never bought anything from this particular place before and I think it will be my last...

Ah thanks NG. Was going to relegate the seeds to a swap table, but I might have a punt on a plant then just to see what it is - butternut or pink warty Frenchness.

I grew the warty frenchness last year, it tasted ruddy awful compared to Crown Prince. Just saying.
