  • Pea problems

My peas started to shoot great, I covered them with a cloche and when they reached about 4" took the cloche off and supported tehm with netting, they all promptly turned brown withered and died. Weather was hot but I did water them well - did I do it too well, not enough or could it be I planted them in an area we've just dug in manure and it was too strong?

Hi Outdiggin, welcome to the vine

You need not have covered them with a cloche as it's plenty warm enough. It could be that the cloche was keeping them mist by having a humid atmosphere & then you removed this & they promptly dried out in the 30+c temperatures we've been having.

The "just dug in manure" isn't neccasarily a problem unless it's fresh muck then it may have burnt the roots.

I'd get hold of some early peas & re sow as they should mature quick enough to get a crop off them just don't cover them with a cloche but keep them well watered.
