'fraid so, Finney - parsnips take ages!

Although you can eat the thinnings, I would guess on them being in the ground for about 6 months before you get your dinner from them.

I sowed mine at the end of Feb, and although they are looking good, I won't dig any until the frost has had a go at them - it is supposed to sweeten them.

We are going to have a grand total of nothing home grown at Christmas dinner this year. The rain, wind and bugs have destroyed everything I sowed or planted. The only things left are celeriac and a few straggly beans.

You're ahead of me - my celeriac didn't get above 1/2" spindly seedlings.

Would it depend on temperature, or is daylight the major factor? I was thinking about sowing some indoors, as I've eaten most of mine! They were very tasty, too!
