  • Ow my aubergines spiked me

I didnt realise how much the spines on aubergine leaves could hurt but I had one stick in my hand today when I was transplanting mine into 15 litre pots its just like getting a splinter or thorn stuck in your hand although it was easier to remove.

I am planning on leaving the aubergines in the 15 litre pots do you reckon these are big enough for there final pots? The plants are currently about 2 foot across and 2 foot high with the first flowers just starting to open up.

    Cheers Chris

Yes, 15 litres will be fine.

What sort of diameter is a 15l pot, I'm never good with volumes, much better with diameter and depth!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

They are square pots as they come with the autopot system to automatically water them.
The size is 24cm wide by 30cm deep.

Also wondering if it is still too early to start hardening them off so as to take them to the allotment greenhouse, bearing in mind that we had hail stone yesterday.

Our 'tiny' (5"-7") aubs are spending sunny days in the unheated greenhouse Chris, they like the extra light and it gets quite warm in the g/h.

Chris - I thought you were growing these aubergines soiless with grow-lights, or is that something else?

            Is the greenhouse heated?

              Hi CC

the aubergines are in soil but grown using the same system as the chillis and tomatoes, I grew them to get an early crop of aubs with the intention of taking them to the allotment.

The greenhouse is heated with a propane heater currently set at 4 degrees so as to stave off frost.

I am growing the tomatoes fully indoors and they are doing great with toms on all four plants the biggest tom being about 1 1/2 inch across.
