  • Outdoor cucumbers - too late to sow?

    Hi everybody,

Am I too late to sow outdoor cucumbers? I'm just wondering whether I'd be better off waiting to sow them direct into some 30l pots?

    Thanks.

You can't put them out until after the frosts so personally I think it's a bit early yet - they grow fast

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

SaraJH I'm not to far away from you and like Snadger I've not sown mine either. I usually sow them end of April early May. that way I'm not carrying huge plants between the house and GH every day.

I put in half a dozen seeds last week, got them sitting on my plant rack in my office.

I haven't even decided which variety out of the ones I've got I'm going to sow.

Me neither, I've been thinking about sowing the indoor ones, but the outdoor ones can't be planted til mid-May, at the earliest here, so those won't get sown for a few weeks yet.

Loads of time Sara - you don't want to be carrying huge spiky cucumber plants around for any longer than you have to!

I sowed mine yesterday. They are in pots in front of the living room radiator. They are Marketmore which, did really well for me last year.

I sowed mine about 7-10 days ago - Marketmore and La Diva they are now in the GH fleeced overnight - in about a week I will sow a few more (just in case)

As others have said they do not like the cold - pumpkins and Courgettes like the cold more and they are wimps.

Mine won't be going in before the last week in April.
