  • Is it onion white rot

I have three sets of heat treated onions, I planted some into cell trays and have had them in the cold farm to harden off, they have been sitting in the open for the past week I started planting them today and one of the sets have a white mould just under soil level, could this be white rot or just a mould, the other two sets are both clean of any mould

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't plant the mouldy one just in case.

It may be Basal root rot, not the same thing as onion white rot - they think this one comes in on the sets, which is why some people will only grow their onions from seeds.

I wouldn't have expected to see white rot yet. It normally becomes apparent later in the season.

So would I be better to bin them?
