  • Onion & Garlic from Rain

It's been raining a bit lately. Today I covered my onion and garlic with a bubblewrap plastic. Is this a good idea to stop the onion and garlic from rotting prematurely. I'm thinking too much rain is no good for them. Please correct me if I'm being too paranoid.

I would not worry about onions and garlic it is only when they are lying in water that they go rotten don't worry about them as long as the ground is free draining ps do not worry jacob

If it's still warm, and they're under plastic, they'll sweat won't they? Condensation?
Like I do if I wear a "waterproof" on my bike.

Thank you both Jacob & Two Shed for your reassurance. My first time with onion & garlic so want to do everything right. Feels like bringing up a baby for the first time growing onion & garlic.

They are tricky though ... don't feel bad if it doesn't work out. I haven't had decent onions or garlic for two years. Drought then flood. You can't do owt about the weather.

Try some Chard, it grows whatever!

Are your onion and garlic newly planted, or nearly ready to harvest? This does make a lot of difference to the advice. If they are close to harvest they need to dry, therefore do not cover them. They should be lifted by now and drying or storing under cover. If newly planted, then they are hardy plants, so they should not need cloche or bubblewrap protection.
