    No, yes and yes.
    Toms and spuds are the same family and should not succeed each other in the ground as they suffer from the same diseases.

      thanks Rocketron ... that explains why some of our toms had really bad whitefly - they got it from the spuds nearby

      I thought I'd read somewhere ... not sure where! that cucumbers shouldn't be planted near potatoes, so was applying the same logic to planting in the ground too

        You should keep tomatoes as far away from potatoes as physically possible but have never heard the same of cucumbers as not the same family but this is my first year of growing (following the previous year of reading GYO before starting)!

          Plant a few French marigolds around your tomatoes to keep the whitefly away.

            Hi Paul - I planted marigolds but even they didn't keep the whitefly off this time + some of the marigolds died off too ... so I uprooted toms that were most affected and still pulling bits off the ones I left in that look as if they're blighted

            Fortunately got some other tom plants elsewhere that have escaped the wroth of the whitefly and they're coming on ok
