  • New spud range in shops?

Forgive me if these are not new. I saw in a few garden centres that Taylor have a range of spuds to sow between july and september with cropping in november to december. 12 week from start to finish it says on the packet. Is this something new or something I've overlooked until now? Practically nothing else in terms of vegetables now available, apart from a few greenhouse plants like tomatoes, aubergines and chillis.

I bought 2 packets, about 20 seed spuds in total and put them in. £2.99 a packet. No instruction about frost, unless grown in containers and in such an event it says take them inside.

It's nothing new, just that I don't think that many people grow them as they are a bit (a lot) risky.

There's blight, more prevalent after midsummer, fading daylight and warmth, and early frost to contend with. Maybe they would work in a polytunnel, or as you say, in pots in the greenhouse.

They're nothing new, Victorian gardeners prided themselves on having new potatoes at Christmas lunch. I think they tended to grow them under cover

I've done them before but can't be bothered now as am happy with stored spuds at Christmas. They definitely need to be kept frost free so best done in pots outdoors and then moved to somewhere with protection

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
