I should like to try growing some new pots. Can anyone advise me as to the earliest I can put some in and the earliest I can crop them. I dont have a greenhouse. I thought maybe the variety 'Swift' or do you know a better one?
    Thanks

Hi Stella, what area do you live in?

Up here I usually put my earlies in the ground the last weekend in March. Usually start to "furtle" 12 weeks later.

I live in South London, thanks for your reply, what a great word 'furtle'.

I usually sow my first ones on St Valentines day, however sowing that early you do need to be prepared to have several layers of fleece at the ready. Last year the foliage did get nipped by the frost but the plants survived and gave me a nice early crop at the end of April beginning of May.
