  • Mould on my mint plant

I bought a mint plant at the supermarket a couple of weeks ago which looked nice and healthy, but I soon noticed what looked like white mould growing on the leaves which then started to go brown and wither up.

Does anyone know what is happening and how I can stop it. I did stop watering it for a couple of days, but that didn't help.

Sounds like powdery mildew, but I've never known it on mint before. Where is your plant? Mint is hardy and should really be outside.

I've had it on mint before, especially mint indoors or in a shady area. If it's really bad, I would chop the plant right back to the dirt, clean up dead leaves on the soil.. and pot it up in a slightly larger pot with a bit of fresh soil.. then put it out where it will get plenty of sun. The mint will soon send up new shoots, which will hopefully be clear of any powdery mildew. Supermarket plants are grown fast under perfect conditions.. they aren't tough, and any little thing seems to set them back. Luckily mint itself is as tough as a weed, so new shoots exposed to the elements will get on fine.

Thanks all for your great suggestions - I'll try that this weekend.
