    The most amazing allotment

    I just had to post this link as this chap has the most amazing allotment I have ever seen. Are you out there on the vine George?

    You've got to respect the amount of work that's obviously gone into it. I don't think I could ever achieve this level of organisation (this side of retirement) but really like the modular approach he has used and am definately gonna build me some little greenhouses

      I also love looking at other plots,but that is one great plot ,he must spend a lot of time down there

          How can I put this without sounding churlish?

          I layed out my allotment in a similar way, full of right angles and geometrically correct, as was my way. Then I rebelled against my (what I percieved as) OCD tendencies!

          Seeing this allotment reminds me of myself years ago until my enlightenment into a more 'natural' way of growing stuff.

          I remember I started a thread about it at the time 'Oh lord its hard to be random'.......I'll see if I can find it.

          If this plot floats your boat (as it must have done for the allotment committee to win the top prize) then so be it, but to me it's too 'Old School' and not really to my liking.

              Each to their own eh Snadge? I find yours and the other one great for different reasons.

                I KNEW my reply would come over as more of a gripe than it was supposed to.
                Think I'll just shut up for now in case I dig a bigger hole for myself!

                  The practicality of this allotment is what makes it so appealling to me. George has made a variety of covers for his beds, including netting in various gauges, cold frames and larger greenhouse-like structures. I like the fact that these can be moved around from bed to bed very easily because all the beds are the same size.

                  Loads of effort to set up, but once done, seems like maintenance would be very straight forward.

                  However, I too like a bit of disorder. Especially in my herb beds or in a decorative planting.

                        That is a fabulously well organised and efficient allotment and I wouldn't dream of knocking such a great use of space. I have to say I do prefer the 'wild at heart' approach though (make room in that hole you're digging Snadge! ).

                              Not only is it well organised it has cost a fortune as well. I spend a lot on wood for raised beds etc but my plot is no where near as organised as that. Still give me a bit more time.
