    Lots of spent tomatoes on the polytunnel beds - is this going to be a problem?

    First year growing and my toms were fantastic but some fell on the floor and I couldnt reach them and some fell off as I was picking. Many of these have broken down already but I can pick some. Im pulling out all the plants and its a bit of a tomato mess on the bed. What happens now with the seeds of these toms?

    Should I be scraping as much as possible off the beds. Next year as I going to be inundated with seedlings? HOw can I sort this and prevent this?

    Don't worry - just hoe them off as they emerge.
    I have tom seedlings from fallen toms that are a couple of inches high already.

      I find toms growing all over my veg patch they from seeds that's found their way into my compost bins. Sometimes I pot them on just to see what the toms end up like.
      Location....East Midlands.

        I've got half dozen or so germinating nicely in my Polytunnel raised bed from this years missed and fallen fruit. They will get pulled out on my next tunnel tidy. I prefer them germinating to weeds

          Tomato seeds are fairly indestructible - they are designed to go through an animal's digestive system undamaged. They are certainly capable of surviving my hotbin as I regularly find them growing in amongst the potatoes that have been planted in compost straight out of the bin. As has been said, simply pull them out when they grow.

            I'm going to have them all over my lawn next year CMT - seems much easier than sowing them all to be fair, I may well leave them to it!
