  • Lost ALL my seedlings!!!

Absolutely gutted!!! Someone has been on my allotment and tipped out ALL my seedlings and thrown them onto next door's overgrown plot (barbed wire fence so I cannot reach them to try saving them by repotting), nicked tools out of shed (only el cheapo ones but that's not the point!) and thrown plant pots all over

I've lost my entire crop of tomatoes, cucamelons, squashes, watermelons and cucumbers

Is it too late to resow them now in the warmth of the airing cupboard and, somehow, salvage something? I only sowed them on Good Friday (19th April) so they're only really about 12 days behind I suppose.

Absolutely gutted as they were growing really well too. Bloody humans......I can take losing stuff to rabbits, caterpillars or pigeons but sheer vandalism - gutted, upset, murderous....all sum up my mood today

I'd be mad...sow a few of everything today so that you've got some in the bag if all else fails.

But go to the plot this weekend and see if anyone has spares. Everyone does.
      I wish I lived closer.

Oh those little bar stewards. I’m so sorry. As Scarlet said can the other plot holders help out. Ireally do think it’s events like this that make those who want to grow at home.
Good luck and for every bad there is always a good.

That was a sympathy like from me, as on the minor rant thread. Really sorry to hear what's happened. Big hug and hope other allotmenteers on your site can help out with spares.

            gits.
            Start again, don't give up.
Squashes, pumpkins, melons, cucumbers and courgettes grow incredibly fast, so sow some more.
Sow some more toms as well, also you can buy tomato plants which are a couple of months old for a pound or so each

Thanks everyone. Yes, I'll pop along to Wilko and/or Homebase tomorrow and pick up a couple of toms and just sow the rest.....as you say, they grow pretty fast once they get going

Neil is livid and going up to the allotment tonight to see what security measures he can put in place over the weekend.

I'm not going to let the little scumbags beat me

Definitely sow as many seeds as you can this week/weekend. My april sown tomatoes already overtook the january ones, so its got to be worth a chance.
Also, have you reported to police? Certainly we are encouraged to do that -though no guarantee the cupprits will be caught...

Lots of stuff can still be sown now, and if VC’s experiments are anything to go by, many things can be sown outside the dates listed on the packet with decent results ;-)

Animals! You should notify the police, the more complaints they get, the more likely they are to look into it/keep an eye out in the area/get the council to increase security measures.

Sorry to hear this, I would be raging.

                        Gilly!

                        Don't give in on tomatoes!

With work commitments and other stuff I have not sown my main crop tomato seeds yet, but will be doing this weekend

People seem to think sowing early gives you an head start, but now as the daytime temps and daylight hours are extending, you would get away with a late sowing but would need to do it now, as sowing, pricking out and potting on would actually benifit the the plants in not having "A Check"

Well thats my thoughts and I'm havin to play with it!

I would report it to the police, they might keep an eye out and catch the miscreants.
