There's not enough light for them at the moment. The earliest I sow carrots is late February. If yours were bought as seedlings then they were probably sown in January. They need light to prosper and the days are still too short.

Greasyfire, where do you buy your seedlings? I remember you had some mystery beans recently, how did they get on?

Carrots don't like being moved... they like to be sown where they are to grow* (in April when the soil is warmer). I'd be asking for a refund.

      * unless you start them in something long like loo rolls or roottrainers

Carrots don't transplant well, so I can't understand why people are selling them as seedlings. Where on earth did you get them from?

I've not seen seedlings at all in a pound shop - in fact at the moment; trying to find any veg seedlings in nurseries or garden centres is an impossible task; they are all just being sown [not that I want any, I just like looking]...

Did you maybe buy the seeds in the Poundshop and sowed them in your plastic container to get the seedlings which are now leggy? I can't get my head round this one, but like the others have said, wait a bit longer and sow a packet of seeds where they are to grow.

I'm struggling with 'leggy' carrots - are you sure they are carrots that you have?
